The Planet, a new Brisbane-based fortnightly club night that aims to showcase the latest and greatest the wider Electronic Dance Music community has to offer. Consistently booking the hottest International and National acts from Electro right through to broken beat genres and Techno, it’s clear that a definite emphasis on music quality has been placed on the night by creators Rumor Has It. The current brain-child of the Perth-born Events Company and Touring Agency, aims to encourage a relaxed and inclusive take on the current insular and image-driven Brisbane Music Scene. Feeling that it has become less about the music and more about the scene, The Planet aims to draw fresh-faced and open-minded Valley punters to the night with solid bookings and the ultimate house-party-meets-clubbing vibe.
Announcing earlier on Friday that the popular Dim Mak Recordings-signed artist Autoerotique will be headlining the launch on August 10th, it’s clear that when it comes to music, The Planet means business. Autoerotique, after playing their previous Brisbane show at The Bowler Bar last year and after having graced the decks at the iconic Monastery Night Club venue, have won the hearts of local Valley-goers over their fairly brief career. With timeless originals like Turn Up The Volume and remixes from and of the likes of Tiesto, Benny Benassi, Steve Aoki, The Subs, Lykke Li, Felix Cartel and Nervo (to name a few), it’s clear that the Canadian production duo’s eclectic and instantly recognisable ‘shape-shifting’ sound is not only relevant, but here to stay.
The Planet encourages strict casual dress code in a bid to build ‘a crowd that’s cool, not a crowd trying to be.’ The creators are asking patrons to don ‘kicks’ and house-party attire, leaving the dress shoes and collared shirts at home. With ‘bad or bro’ attitudes also outlawed this fresh, tongue in cheek take on a Friday night out, coupled with the best Headlining acts and local DJs Brisbane has to offer, leave no doubt that there’s something new is brewing on the horizon for local EDM enthusiasts in the months to come.
The Planet is located fortnightly at 27 Warner Street, Fortitude Valley. Doors open 9pm till late, cover charge; $15 ‘cool cats’, $20 ‘plebs’.
